FC Barcelona legend, Johan Cryuff, has been left frustrated with the current state of his former club.
Cruyff, who won one La Liga title and one Copa del Rey with Barcelona as a player and a further 11 titles with the Blaugrana as coach, has hit out at the current board.
"It's sad to see Barça in this state. They were football's crown jewels with Unicef, but we've lost a lot of prestige around the world,” the Dutchman said, as quoted by Marca.
"I was smart to give back my club badge so I'm not sullied by everything that is going on now.”
Cruyff also insisted Luis Enrique needs more time and the club must return to stability in the coaching set up.
"He has one thing going for him: I signed him, although I never got to coach him because they got rid of me,” he continued.
"Barça had two coaches in nine years. Now they've had three in three years.”
While Cruyff was very critical of his former club, he praised the current form of bitter rivals, Real Madrid.
"Madrid have learnt from Barcelona's playing style, although they also lost 4-2 away to Real Sociedad,” the 67-year-old concluded.
Cruyff’s style of play and his football philosophy has had considerable influence on many mangers such as Frank Rijkaard and Pep Guardila.
Barcelona as well as Ajax Amsterdam have developed their youth academies based on Cruyff’s coaching methods.
